One such individual, Eileen Jay, would bring unique credentials to the School Committee. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">With a <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #212121;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Doctorate in Education from Harvard University, Eileen focused her academic and professional research on how students learn and how to foster critical and creative thinking. As a mother of two children who attended Lexington elementary, middle and high schools, Eileen shared her knowledge, her passion for high quality public education, and her compassion for students, families, and teachers by volunteering in a variety of school-related roles. <\/span><\/span><\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">After serving with Jay on the Lexington High School Site Council for four years, I can attest to her uncanny ability to listen carefully, question respectfully, and act doggedly and unselfishly. For instance, when the Site Council considered the sequencing of science by grade, Eileen quietly undertook a survey of some 25 schools in the region and discovered that Lexington was virtually the only school that offered AP biology in 10<\/span><\/span><sup><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">th<\/span><\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> grade. This finding contributed to a thoughtful discussion about whether this approach created unnecessary pressure and stress. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Jay will bring her thorough knowledge of our school system, broad experience in education, measured analytical approach to issuses and deep concern for student well-being to the School Committee.
